Jim Beam Black 8 yr old

Post by firewater69 »

My buddy came by a few hours ago with a bottle of JB Black, he is a Beam guy, so we poured a drink, nose: vanilla, caramel, a little over oaked but not terrible. Far from original Beam, then as we were discussing it we were looking at the label & smelling from the bottle. All i could smell was oaky pickles, I don't know why i couldn't smell it in the glass, this is a new one on me. the funny thing is i noticed it but didn't say anything ( dont want to hurt feelings) then he says I smell dill pickles. so i know it ain't just me, we finished our drink & i poured him a couple fingers of my white all corn, the Beam stayed in the bottle. I think he may be converted. :D

I never smelled any pickles in it but then nothing surprises me from these commercial places. I used to knock back a fair bit of JBB back in the day. Then was away from it awhile...it went from "Aged 7 Years" & 90p to what it is now. And IMHO another year older (if it is) did it no good, the older version was a much smoother, tastier drop. :(

Might be an acetobacterium infection between the cork and bottle.
Considering what's infected, might not matter.

It just seemed strange to be able to smell it in the bottle but not in the glass. anyways, it really don't matter as i don't buy JB, just thought i'd share my observation. thanks for the input. FW
