I should make it myself but when you got guys on ebay selling it for 100 bucks on ebay, alot less hassle for me , when i work 65 hours a week
This should work i would say. what you guys think?

Code: Select all

I am an electrician by trade ,maybe later on down the road, i can add a heating element to the keg and do it myself.

Gas to go to nearest hardware store, is 15 bucks in a V8 truck(50 miles away) 30 bucks for material. Id rather spend the money and have the post office send it to my door. I do work two jobs and only time i have is weekends. I live in the sticks brother with a 12 foot dish to even get sat tv...

Hey man its your parade I don't want to rain on it. Like I say you do what you want. But looks to me that you want to spend twice the cash on half the product only to save a day at best. Just thought I'd try to save you some cash.

My shop teacher back in college used to tell us: "its good to rush through a job!, that way you have more time to do it right the second time!"

Thats cool dude, when you have the cash to pay someone to make you a leibig condenser, why not? Ive understood what halfbaked said about TTB, thats why you use a moneypak card and addy, where it cant be traced to you. im a working american who still works 65 hours a week and only play time is weekends who wants to brew some likker...

First off, I apologize if what I said came off the wrong way. My only intent is to help you out.

Now, my personal reasons for building my own...

I know what type solder I used.
I know what type flux I used.
If anything ever break on my liebig I know exactly how to fix it because I built it.
Building is half the fun.

Like its been said. If you think the eBay liebig is the way to go for you, then by all means knock yourself out. Its a personal choice, but for a ton of reasons most if not all members here would agree that building your own is best.

Btw, are you building a pot still or reflux? Where are you getting the rest of the still?

If you're gonna buy one, don't buy that one, it's too small.this one is 30" and less money.

The ready made condensers aren't ready to use.
You will need a union to connect it to the pot and a valve with cooling water connections.

It was hell getting out the sphere in a labatt keg i got from a local town bar, i got it out though. the normal routine was taking out clip and simple turn sphere counter clockwise, well it did not. ended up drilling out sereval parts to get it out.

Seems this thread started off on where to buy question. Seems you are looking for approvals from the membership. To start off with you bought a keg from someone who doesn't own the barrel and is not there's to sell. So you are starting on a stolen keg?

Need to give the OP the benefit of the doubt till he fills in the blanks on the keg. Recently there was a thread about kegs that the
brewery didn't want back. Think it was Moosehead.

Everyone seems to be trying to stay on track here so let's not join in and try to disrupt the thread. It's definitely preferred and advised to make your own equipment, but I know exactly what the OP is saying about not having enough time to make your own stuff and lots of folks don't have ready access to all the needed materials.

Dl76, not saying you didn't acquire your keg legitimately. We don't know all the circumstances of the transaction. This is just for new people who might come along and read this thread:

First, a disclaimer - I don't know what kind of arrangements bar owners have with beer distributors in relation to deposits on kegs. I'll assume that they pay the same deposit of about $30 that the rest of us pay. That said, an unscrupulous bar owner/bartender could sell you a keg for $70, forfeit the deposit, and pocket the extra $40. If you are the purchaser of the keg, you are complicit in it's theft - whether you are aware of the other persons actions, or not. The bar owner/bartender can simply tell the beer delivery guy the keg was ripped off from the loading dock out back. Buying a used keg without knowing it's source is a gray area at best. My guess would be that many Craig's list type transactions are the result of someone forfeiting a deposit in order to turn a profit on an illegally acquired keg.

If you care about where your keg comes from, use a little discretion in who you purchase from. Sometimes it's difficult to know if a keg has been legally acquired by a seller. If it's obvious to you that it is nefariously acquired, pass on it.

Congrats on moving up to the keg! You're gonna love the larger size, and there is a ton of info on here about the many ways to configure and use it. Buy your Liebig wherever you want and get that rig runnin.

Edit: Now if you guys will remove your quote of my post it'll be gone altogether.

DL76, you do what you want, the main point is getting in operation. You got money, then buy it. Personally I'm SUPER cheap so I make everything, but again that's just me.
