I am in the process of reading all the post. But also if there is anyone with a decent amount of experience, that likes to teach and lives near Columbia SC, give me a shout. I tend to learn better hands on.

Not sure I would attempt to read ALL the posts. The ones in my signature would be a good start.
As far as hooking up with a mentor in your area, you'll probably need to gain the trust of the members here, or at least the ones near you, before anyone would agree to doing that. For now, just stick around and try to absorb as much as you can. Things will begin to click into place after awhile. Once you work through the initial learning curve, it will get somewhat easier.
good luck to you and stay safe.

For what it's worth, coming from another relative newby, it's not hard to get started as long as you can follow directions. The first thing I did (after spending days reading up on everything here) was run a bunch of cheap red wine. Do that a few times and you'll get to know your still, roughly figure out how to make cuts, and so on. So far, this is turning out like a surprisingly accessible hobby, all things considered. There's a lot of information here.

I am in Anderson. Good to see another! Just hang around and read. That's what I have been doing. Great info here. You'll be on your feet soon enough.

Welcome to the forums! Good advice about reading. Link in my signature is a good place to start. It's all pretty basic physics and chemistry. What do you like to drink? We can help point you in the right direction with a little more information about what you're after.

Thanks everyone for the support. And i fully understand the trust issue. I've been making beer for a long time, I'm not a huge liquor fan but i can be convinced to have a pull. I am interested in making fruit brandy, and sour mash. Also scotch for my wife. Once i get done with the research it should be good times.
