Belated Hi from Sydney

Post by crocman »

Hi guys, yes been a bit slack saying hi. Been busy reading :). I've been distilling neutral with an old still spirits 'reflux' for nearly 20 years. Have to say I have lost my marbles on more than one occasion.. After playing around with all mash brewing thought it was time to work on making some real rum & whisky. Made up a pot still & condenser to fit the old 30 litre boiler. So many recipies so little time :)

G'day croc and welcome here, after 20 years with that little drip drip still you are going to shit on the spot when you see what a 2" pot still does  . Have a good read through the newbie section if you haven't already as running a pot is not the same as those little reflux jobbies . If you are already brewing AG then whiskey is an easy step up, same deal but you don't mash out, you aim to ferment dry and you don't need to be as analysis about being sterile

Welcome to the forum, 20 years of drip drip drip...you got to be keen, read and learn some and when the new old age sinks in you wont believe how quick you can make some nice alcohol. :eugeek: take a look at the plated column in my avatar.. capable of full flavored Rum, Whisky...Bourbons and with a extension neutrals and the runs are quite fast.
I run a 6" 4 x sieve plate bubbler (flute), all hand made by myself, Custom Copper Fabricator mounted on my 100ltr boiler...my approach to Hobby distillation is safety 1st, quality a close 2nd and making good friends with similar hobby's as myself.
