#1 can i charge my thumper with my wash to get a higher abv ? #2 i would like to have a keg as a boiler i thought they were aluminum ? If they aint ide like to have one . If so do i need a special keg or can i just call up dusing brothers ( a place around here to get kegs of beer and ice ) and ask to buy one ? What do they usually run ($) ? One more thing does anybody got one forsale ? Thanks

Yes you can charge your thumper with wash. Yes you can buy stainless steel kegs numerous places, even here check out classifieds.

I charge my 5 gallon thumper with a gallon of wash and a gallon from my faints jug. I'll typically get 70 to 75% abv. I love the ujssm. It's has always been my go to... it's easy, pretty much fool proof, and it makes a great drop. The other great thing about a thumper is you can charge it with pretty much what you want, experiment put a b.o.c. of creamed corn in and a nice corn flavor really comes through... Can of peaches? Mandarin oranges? You tell me...

Be sure to realize that most kegs available on craigslist and classified are stolen kegs. And understand that if you get a keg and drink the beer the deposit does not pay for the keg, and that keg is then considered stolen.

Smokey h , yes go for the keg solution.
There are others that have such a setup and are happy with it.
Now before you run out the door for a keg, consider what you want to build.
My suggetion would be a full keg for a boiler and a half keg for a thumper,it would be easy to build.

Thank you very much Danaspirits ill take your advise . And Rad14701 , i do go but the law and the beer company im going to goes sell kegs and ill have a receipt . But NO . I would never steal . I buy , sell and trade on guns all day but before i take on in i run the numbers to make sure its not stolen . Your right , theres to many people out there looking to sell stolen stuff . Its sad . Smokey, Rad's point about stolen kegs is not about buying stolen property from a black market source. The point is that if you buy a keg of beer from that brewing company, pay the deposit, get the receipt, and then take it apart or cut into it to make a still, that keg is stolen. Because you stole it.

When you buy a keg of beer, you're only paying for the beer. The brewing company or distributor still owns the keg, and it will come with a sticker stating that. The deposit encourages people to return their empty kegs instead of stealing them, but it doesn't cover the purchase cost of the keg and does not constitute transfer of ownership. Stealing them by forfeiting your deposit hurts your local beer company because now THEY have to buy a new one, instead of you buying one yourself. That drives up the cost of beer, which no one will thank you for. If you want to buy a keg, by all means do so because it's one of the best vessels for our hobby and there are tons of helpful tutorials and info on this site for how to have fun with one once you've got it. There are also several threads on how to get one the right way, above board. Use the HD Google Search link under the banner to find the info you're looking for.

Dstains: yes i know that lol. When i was alot younger i delt with dusing bros. alot , and yes i had to pay some late penalties . I took for granted i guess that he knew that i knew that i couldnt do that . But any way i called them this morning just to see if they sold them and they said yes . W/ out the beer lol . Believe it or not im good for a night cap and thats about it . A keg of beer would take me a yr to drink . I need to start brewing quicker than that lol . In that case, you're one of the lucky ones! Lots of people here have had to order kegs decommissioned / scrap kegs online and pay for shipping. Good on you buddy
