hello from the northeast!

Post by Smikes64 »

Yep, I am a newbie!
A long time ago I brewed beer, then the wine bug hit me and I spent about 9 years playing with that ,quite seriously I might add. Have tons of fermenters ,glass carboys, all the chemicals for testing bla ba bla.Made lots of good stuff which was shared with friends, but along the line ended up with some off kilter experiments that left me with wine that wasn't worthy of sharing. What to do with it and not waste the money put into it led me in this direction.I have put together some very tasty beverages in the panty dropper line thanks to this site.I hope that I can learn more and hopefully be able to one day proudly add my own recipe to these pages!

Welcome, and good luck.

A friendly word of warning: As far as I know you basically can't distill wine to which sulphites have been added. I happened to distill unsulphited wine and sulphited wine back to back. First was awesome, second was unbelievably horribly sulphur smelling.

I never added sulfites to my wine, kinda always leaned towards higher alcohol fruit wine, never had one go bad, what distilled was pretty good for my first trial run. put it through pot still with thumper which was charged with grapefruit wine.Wife thought what came out had a slight vanilla taste. Good way to empty some bottles I thought!

Howdy Smikes64! Your getting the idea already. I've always been of a mindset "if it's crap an getting dumped anyway, may as well play around with it some." If the wine's dint turn out right, put em thru the pot....may surprise you. Have fun!
Patience....the early bird get's the worm, but the second rat get's the cheese.
