CSST for leibig

Post by zipfly »

Hi,
Am in the middle of my slow CCVM build and was wondering if anyone uses CSST as the outer for a leibig around a piece of stainless pipe as a product condenser, coiled around the pipe. Just not sure what cooling it would have on the vapour passing through the pipe.
Thanks
Dave

If you use it as a sleeve like a leibig, it would work great for water turbulence.

Edited for clarification.

I dunno, man. External coil condensers always look kinda sketchy to me, even when they're made out of copper. And copper conducts heat 25 times better than stainless. What size CSST are you thinking about wrapping around how big a pipe?
Distilling at 110f and 75 torr.

That would definitely not work. You need to have the cooling liquid physically in contact with the outside of your condenser tube.

think he's talking CSST as the outer jacket on liebig. Im sure it would work fine, outer jacket is just a vehicle for cooling water.

Hey Dave, did you mean using the corrugated tube as a water jacket, or did you mean winding it around the outside of the condenser tube?

Pretty sure that won't work to well. Just stick with a regular leibig.

Not real heat conductive and it has air gaps due to the corrugations.

You could use the CSST *inside* a condenser to very good effect, some here are big fans of twisted CSST in a keg spear or other pipe/tube to make a Dimroth condenser. Leibigs are easy, but a CSST Dimroth is even easier!

Sounds good but my keg spear is only 22nd outside diameter, a bit too small to fit csst inside, even 12mm won't run up and back.

Yeah, no go on that but if you are shooting for a stainless liebig, just get thin walled 5/8" od 304 ss tube for the inside where your liquor is coming through and use standard copper fittings and tube for the rest. I just built one this way. A little Harris Stay Clean flux and a wrap of Harris Stay Brite solder it solders up just fine. Not sure of your intent.
