Powdery activated carbon from brewhaus

Does the activated carbon available from places like brewhaus.com have fine particulate matter? I've sourced some carbon locally but I suspect (based on a small sample) it is too powdery. After rinsing the stuff rigorously my filtered spirits have a sight grey tinge and fine particles are obviously visible even after being passed through a couple of coffee filters.

Reason I ask is that I'll just go ahead and order locally if I'm going to have to deal with that anyways.

And while I'm at it, is it normal to see a drop of ABV after filtering? I just had some 40% swishing around in a jug with the carbon for a week or two. Today it was 30%. Tasted like watered-down bottom shelf vodka. Damnedest thing.

I didn't, the ol' man only drinks scotch. They wait 8 to 12 yrs for something that tastes so shit! Once again, only my opinion.

The stuff from brewhaus.com is course.

the fine powder you got sounds like the stuff I got from
my wine store, its a pita to remove you have to use
a clearing agent and rack a few times to get it out
or just rack and rack till the cows come home.
using coffee filters really isn't the best way
as that stuff is so fine it clogs it up.
