1.) A cheap pair of leather gloves is a great investment
2.) While liquid solder may "wick" upward, gravity always wins when your hand is under a wet joint
3.) Good prep/scratching of the copper is priceless!!!
4.) A "wet" rag around a hot wipe doesn't mean a "cold" rag

MisterSteve: The column is 3/4", the arm is reduced to 1/2". All plumbing copper joined with lead-free solder. Very simple layout (has to be "simple" for me!). I have a threaded connection at the worm to allow for some disassembly.
Well, I'm running a water boil through her now. No leaks and just crappy metal clips (no flour seal needed) to seal the lid. I may have to run the sugar wash next to clean it out and learn a little more about temperature breaks.
