Hi everyone,

Just recently discovered this forum and thought I should join as I have my (rough) plans to build a still but have several questions and would appreciate some feedback from the more experienced amongst you (& from the not so experienced...... the more the merrier).

But first........a little about myself.

I currently spend half the year in Bulgaria where it is legal and positively encouraged to own and operate your own still & the remainder of the year I spend in the UK where we are constantly watched, monitored and told what we can and cannot do by other people in suits and costumes.......I'm glad someone is watching out for me ;-) (right, I'll get off my soapbox now).

My distilling experience has come from making Rakia in Bulgaria, fortunately there's an abundance off plums in my garden, on the lane, in the village, everywhere. So, not wanting to miss the opportunity to learn the local customs and traditions, I filled a couple of barrels with plums and let nature do its thing before taking it to the village distillery (a small 5mx5m building with big pot still squeezed into it) and walked away with 20 litres of 60% Rakia........happy days........now I'm hooked on the whole process and would like my own still so that I can experiment with other spirits (whiskey, vodka, rum, gin).

I hope to gain some more knowledge from the forum, have my plans critiqued and pointed in the right direction when my brain fails me (a regular occurrance) by all you good folks.

So to my first question...... do I create a new topic for my questions or just go right ahead and ask them on this thread? I did say my brain fails me sometimes :-)

Cheers,
Aarron
