Heat Question

Post by runwild »

Hello
Years ago I designed a wood hot water boiler to heat my 2000 sq. foot home and 1600 sq. foot. shop. This is a closed loop system with heat exchangers at house and shop. With cutting the wood myself. Gas for saw , truck and electric fore two pumps and fans the total cost is under 500 $ fore six months. Clubbed the oil company’s good on that one. Well it is time to do it again with some help from you good people.
Ok I have Read , Read & Read. Binging a pipe fitter plumber the concept of building and the operation of the different stills came fairly easy fore me put have a lot to learn yet. Here’s the first of many questions to come. I have decided on a design I would like to build. A continual flow still with a re boil heat souses. The said boiler sets idle for six months. I can keep the temperature of it at 175 to 190 degrees and could adjust it so their is a 5 degree difference between top and bottom temperature and maintain this fore up to 16 hours on a single fill. Will that temperature range be sufficient to operate a still of this design. Next question If the heat sources counts as the first plate why not put two plates with heated coils under them ( stripper section ) and then go to packing the rest of the way up the column seems this would make it more efficient ? This would make the column higher but not a problem here. Being a dumb country boy math & formulas jest don’t get a long any help is much appreciated. Here is a picture of the still design.
Thank you in advance
