Instead of wrapping things in teflon tape...

Post by joeymac »

Why not just buy premade FEP/PFA encapsulated silicone orings off the shelf? They would probably be longer lasting than a homemade solution and are truly encapsulated (not just a bunch of Teflon tape wrapped all over. FEP/PFA are just Teflon derivatives and encapsulated orings are used in labs to get the chemical resistance of Teflon orings with the flexibility of regular orings. And since they're not solid Teflon (only the surface) they're not extra expensive like solid Teflon seals can be.

FYI: Both FEP and PFA are rated for Acetone/Ethanol/Methanol at boiling points (100C/212F)... Which is actually unsurprising since they're basically teflon.

So evidently, God wants us to drink our whiskeys single barrel and our Bourbons neat.
