If i wanted to modify my column by adding plates to the bottom section every 3''
and the top section being packed with copper packing, will this combination
be beneficial?

I don't know what the lower plates could possibly do for you other than turbulate the vapor as it rises. It looks like work for nothing. The plates will heat up as the vapor rises, so it won't give you any passive reflux beyond early start up.

And your boka will condense the vapor back to the packing in the upper section.

I would think you'd benefit more (for a neutral) if the lower column was packed with copper too, not just the upper section.

What are you thinking the lower plates will do for you?

The original bokakob had plates arranged like that instead of packing to stack the fractions. Outdated now and packing is a lot better. I wouldn't waste the time or material.

Usge built a 2" flute and it was not so good ..Couldn't find a build on it but I think he only posted about it Here in Old dogs Mk11 thread read the few following pages and you will get the results from him

.IIRC Fester also had a crack with similar results

Personally I think packing would be best in a 2" ..
Still give it a go ..if you love building you have plenty to gain .

Not a good idea. It will make cleaning nearly if not impossible. Pack it with scrubiies when you pull them out it is giving the column a clean. Push one through a few times when the urge takes you. A simple open column with open ends each end is a good idea. just push on caps works no steam escapes out of mine there are other less restive paths.

Yeh, the square wheel has been tried. And the hexogonal and octangonal wheels didn't fare much better. Sometimes it is best to simply stay with the convention of round wheels. A lot less bumpy!
