So I've gotten pretty good at turning kegs into fermenters, but now I've run across a healthy source of kegs.

They are a metal recycler and I walked away with two perfect kegs.

I already have a big boiler and keg fermenter, so what now?

I half enjoy this hobby for the build aspect and I half enjoy this hobby for the faces people have when they have my whiskey.

What to do with these kegs....

Since I strip four times then run them all together in backset (which gives me nearly one gallon after cutting), I'm curious about using a thumper in order to decrease my time spent stilling.

But I'm wondering, all my years of lurking and reading have led me to believe my thumper should be roughly 1/5 the size of my boiler. Will a full size keg not work as a thumper for a keg sized boiler?

The thumper should be 1/3 size minimum of your boiler. But any size bigger than that is fine. Many people use thumpers that are the same size as their boiler, nothing wrong with that at all.

Can we noodle through the pros/cons?

He does occasionally get 6 gal kegs.

I don't - obviously. Maybe I'll just use one to practice my silver/stainless soldering on.

Maybe doing a bit of research into thumpers and their use would be beneficial... Hint...

I just reread all17 pages of the thumper thread in 2hrs.
Try it.

Use 1 keg as your boiler and use the other keg as your thumper.
Lots of info on it in the forum.
