I finished up the triac temp controller and have it running a new 1500 watt hot plate. I've cranked it up and it gets hot and works well. Tonight I put the pot I'm going to distill with on the hot plate with 4 gallons of water and was going to do a test run and take it up to 180ish degrees. After a few minutes on max the hot plate temp controller, which I had set to max, tripped and shut down the current to the coil. Initially I bypassed the temp controller then reconnected it thinking it would work as an over temp switch, should I of kept it bypassed? Or, should I not drive the coil at max?
Hopefully hot plate users with experience could chime in on how they operate theirs. I'd really appreciate hearing how you run.
