I made my first run of SF the other night and I think it did pretty good. I run a pot still with a thumper and run it very slow, took about 4hr to run a 10gal wash. I ended up with 18pts of goods. I have them airing with coffee filters. Now I have to try and find the hearts and do what blending I need to do. I am going to put it in oak barrels that I have. Do I cut it back before I age it? I now have Gen 2 working. I took some pics to attach the #'s are proof not ABV and stayed with a steady drop through the run.
It fermented just about right and the smell was great.
It started at 152,152,137,134,130,120,118,116,108,98,84,70,66,48,45,44,40,30. Started with 7gal.
I also did a run of rum did a stripping run then a sprit run started with 2gal on the sprit run and ended up with right at a gal.
It was 165,162,162,162,154,146,120
all and all not bad.

Re: First run
On your sweetfeed run, your cuts will probably end up being somewhere around 134 thru 70. Plus or minus one or so either side of those numbers. You probably will end up with around 55% abv when blended. That's good enough to put on oak for a lot of folks. Not, for the trubies. They want 62.5 % to oak which is standard by law to be called whiskey. That's why they distill twice. To get the ABV up and it is also smoother/cleaner. It's up to you.yarnammurt wrote:

Your rum came out high enough to do with what you wish.
