Home Distiller

Hello to all. I've been reading this site for a couple months now, learned a ton, and have finally decided to jump in. I'm mainly interested in a pot still for flavored brandies, and true corn moonshine. At least to begin with. About a month ago, I drew up a design using a SS stockpot and SS mixing bowl. After about 30 minutes, I realized that I'd be better served utilizing a couple kegs that I already had lying around from a past homebrewing venture. So I scrapped my stockpot plans and started fresh. My initial idea was a 1/2 keg boiler with at 1/4 keg thump keg. I already had a 1/2" coil wort chiller, which I turned into a worm condenser fairly easily. I've picked up a few clamps, fittings, and copper pipe. I just figured I'd introduce myself and see if I could get some feedback before I flush a bunch of shiny $$ down the drain.

Welcome Kugeo, sounds like your starting out ok. Take your time and study the build forums. If you get stuck there are plenty of helpfull people here to help you. If you hav'nt already, read crankys spoon feeding for new distillers in novices. This will get you ready for after the build! Enjoy the forums!

Glad to have you join us. Your switch from the stainless pots to the kegs is a wise move. Thanks for the intro. Do all the research you can till you understand all the concepts of every still design and the possibilities of each and then make your decision. Being informed is the key to success in this hobby. The pot is only part of the process. The column is another. But, the wash/mash is the key to making something drinkable once you have the equipment. Take a look at all the designs/builds and ask yourself, why do I want this or that design? Can you honestly answer that? Now that you have introduced yourself and have really studied all the designs, then ask your questions in "My First" thread to get answers on your potential build and you will get tons of help. Show us some photos of what you have and what you want to do.

Thanks for the info. Currently, I have the material for a 2" angled lyne arm then down into the thump. Coming out of the thump via 1" to the worm. I have the material, and will probably build, a nice lie if arm to replace the worm. I will post a couple photos in the"My First" forum.
