Still ( :problem: no pun intended) reading, but getting close to going for it.
So I've started collecting to do my build.
I picked up 2 HDPE 5 gallon buckets & lids from work today.
They stlll ( ) smell like pickles.
Is there a particular method that is HD approved for cleaning?

Note sure about getting the Pickle smell out but I sterilize with star-san.

I would think might be worth using a bunch of distilled water with lots baking soda and letting things sit. It takes the smell out of a fridge so I expect should do a similar thing. I know I use Baking Soda and Vinager for cleaning lots of stuff around the house.

The other option is PWB (powdered brewery wash, an Oxy-clean on steroids). It seems to do a very good job on a stinky barrel, as well as cleaning my stainless dishwasher.YMMV

Not sure about pickle smell. That is some tough stuff. I had a pickle jar soaked in baking soda solution for days, changed a few times, still has hint of pickle. Too bad, was a nice half gallon jug . . . now it's used for my bbq starter (fors) and clearly labelled "poison"
