got a gallon of Neutral, now what?

Hey guys,

well, I had a succesful run of some birdwatchers, and ended up with a little over a gallon and a half that I proofed down to 90 proof from 140proof. Half gallon, I mixed with fresh peaches, and am letting it sit.

I have a gallon of neutral sitting here, and I have a 1.3 gallon oak barrel sitting here too. Just wondering what "flavor" you guys might recommend adding to the gallon of neutral, then I plan on putting it into my little oak barrel and letting her sit for a few months.

Any thoughts??

If I were you I would not put neutral in an oak barrel, just a waste of the barrel. I would wait to make some whiskey or rum to put in the barrel. Beware that small size barrel will impart a ton of oak FLAVOR in a short period.

Lorann "Super Strength Flavors" are pretty awesome IMO. Avoid the few flavors that are not PG based like tangerine. They sell almost every flavor you can imagine and most of them are good. Just a few drops per quart is all it takes. After that add simple syrup to taste.

so your saying 90 proof not 90% right?

You like gin? Odins Gin in tried and true could be nice

+1 bitter.

Make some gin...see Odin's Easy Gin in the T&T forum. You'll love it.

For the deer hunters here that like to use cover scents the use of two drops of oil of anise http://shop.lorannoils.com/super-streng ... il-natural" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow on your hat will allow you to fart, smoke, clean yer toenails or eat limburger cheese while in the woods and the deer downwind will never know that you're there.

Trust me on this, folks

do small jars to see what ya like, nothing worse than a whole gallon of shit ya don't like. You like citrus a good one is get some citrus fruit like say a Mandrin and suspend it in a jar above the spirit of make up a stainless stand to fit in the jar. Make sure the fruit don't touch the spirit and the oils will sweat out via the vapour condensing on it should take about 4 weeks to get a liqueur money can't buy
then sweeten to taste

What fruit are ripe where you are? What do you like to drink? I just did my first fruit liqueur the way Crow suggested and it only took a week to extract sufficient flavor for a nice liqueur that you won't find in any liquor store.

What I wouldn't do, is waste a perfectly good barrel by putting neutral in it. Save it for whiskey, rum, or brandy.

yes, I did mean 90 proof..not 90% abv. :)

I've been looking at recipes like Apple Pie, and Cherry Pie..etc. One guy on another forum said to add molasses and distilled water "to taste" what the heck would that do??

I don't like Gin...so that's OUT! LOL

I know that the "apple pie" and "cherry pie" recipes don't use ALOT of likker, so just looking for something I can make now, and drink this summer when it's hot out, when we are camping.

Is there a name for this method of flavoring or a thread about it on here?

I'm good with maceration, but it lowers the abv too much.

I have heard ppl refer to it as sweating the flavour out, are you looking for a method? , I know some guys the do it and almost surely have threads here on it but who knows where or what they are called

Just wanting to read about methods, flavors, results, variations....
The usual.

Maybe I can start a new thread with out getting rad rodded. No need to derail this thread.

I had the same quandary, my first run of neutral wondering what to do with it. Try this http://homedistiller.org/forum/viewtopi ... =4&t=38991 I did a liter of this and nearly wet my self it was so good!

Also Odin's easy gin, I just did the maceration and ended up with pee coloured gin, however the taste is fantastic, in tonic I can't taste the difference between it and Gordons. Working on a small pot still to do the second distilling soon, I hope!

I had some 150 proof and made an awesome strawberry panty dropper! Not sure if 90 will do the trick. It was so good I just made 2 more gallon. Save it and mix with the high proof next run and do a maceration, it seems to be a good all around drink any time of year.

I think I may use the 90 and do a strawberry panty dropper..sounds like a good summer drink! I don't care if it's not as "strong" as it's suppose to be..anything that gives a buzz and tastes good, is OK by me!

My last 4 or 5 maceration were 90 proof. It works just fine. Although the end result will end up around 20% abv. Tasty, but not very strong.
