Newcomer

Post by Bootlegger+10 »

I am a newcomer to your forum and I have been distilling for a number of years with pot still. Mostly I was distilling a local version of Hooch called Mampoer, a distillate mainly from fruit. I have now acquired a Turbo 500 column still, and think it is time to move to more sophisticated products ig. Brandy Whiskey etc.
I found your website an enormous help, but I am still stuck on a couple of techniques, of which I will enquire later.

If you want to make brandy or whiskey then you already have the best tool for the job - your pot still. The Turbo 500 column is best used to make neutral spirits - vodkas - and some members have expressed concern over the materials used for the seals and end caps etc. Please make sure there are no rubber or silicon parts and you should be ok.

Good luck, stay safe, have fun!

Welcome to HD. When you get the chance please share your recipe for the Manpoer. I have a lot of fruit around here that Id like to do something with this summer before it all goes to the birds and raccoons. I hear Manpoer also makes good mosquito repellant.

Old Gray Dog,
I'm posting a recipe for Mampoer as you requested, a little belated but never the less.
20kg Fruit (Mince to help fermentation)
24 L Water
10kg Sugar
40g Dry yeast disolved in water.

Mix all ingredients and ferment according to normal priciples.4 - 6 weeks should do the trick. Stir twice daily.

When fermentation is completed, seperate solids from fluid.

Fermet in potstill adhering to normal cut procedure.

Hope it will be of use to you.
