have you powder coated your copper distiller?

Hi,
I use a home made copper pot made by my father so many years back. It's still in mint condition, however, it lost it's luster. I want to do some maintenance. My neighbor works in a leading industrial corrosion protection company and he says powder coating the pot helps to strengthen it and protect from minor damages. Do you think it's an unwanted expense? Is there anyone here who has tried coating the distiller.
