Newbie here from central California. looking to purchase a 10 gallon pot .At present using a 7 gallon (borrowed) . Lots of stupid questions in my head...Whats the temp. at which corn mash needs to be heated to make starch available?(160)? secondly, first batch only made 2 qts out of a 8 gallon mash.....thought I would get more?

Welcome to HD crosscreekmatt,
Lots of answers here but you will need to search for them, click the HD google search at the top of the page type in your search without deleting anything. The rest you need to know is in the first 2 links in my signature. As far as what you get, depends on what your wash/mash was, 6% of 8 gallons is only 2 quarts so what you got sounds about right if you want quality.

hi welcome!
maybe try the tried and true recipes thread. booner's corn may help or nchooch bourbon. all kinds of details there and if you get stuck just ask what to do right on the thread of the recipe you are working.
have fun and stay safe
