New Member from Maryland!

Post by magnuson25 »

Hello Everyone,

I am very excited that I found this forum as it has been a wealth of knowledge as I have been reading through this so far. After reading into distilling, I decided yesterday that I really wanted to give it a go, so I went ahead and purchased some equipment to get me going.

The still that I purchased it the Still Spirits Turbo 500 with the Stainless Steel Condenser
I also bough the little things such as the fermenting bucket, a 1 lb bag of Distillers yeast, a hydrometer and the basics needed to get me started. Lastly I purchased myself a 2 liter oak barrel in order to age my finished product in.

Once my stuff gets here, I plan on making my first mash using 8.5 lbs of flaked corn, 1.5 lbs of flaked barley, and 5 gallons of water and give that a go. I look forward to experimenting, and also to the comments to help me save the headache and mistakes that others experienced.

Welcome to the forum, lots of sage advice here. Read as much as you can so you have a basic understanding of the hows and whys. Before you get carried away. Flaked corn and flaked barley won't make you a darned thing but porridge. You need some malted grains for the enzymes to convert starch to sugar, or liquid enzymes. Or you can use the grains for flavor and add sugar . I would suggest a bit more reading and start with a tried and true recipe from the list and go from there.
