I have one of those pretty ghetto stove kettle based pot stills at home, and I've been having trouble with some steam escaping through the top of the kettle where you would add water, which has been completely ruining the pressure and slowing the still down at lot. What's a simple way to fix this? Honestly just being able to slap some tape over the line between the lid and main pot would work perfectly fine, but I want to make sure whatever I put on it won't melt and mess up the kettle. Thanks.

Upgrade to a stainless steel pot for a boiler. You won't regret it.

Just hit me.... a stovetop tea kettle. Those things arent real safe. Not to mention tiny. Why not think about an upgrade? Walmart sells stainless bowls on the same aisle as the ss stock pots. Grab the one (bowl)that fits the 20qt stockpot as a lid. Connect your condenser (3/8" id right?)to the bottom of the bowls bottom and seal the upside down bowl on with biscut dough. Just like that you have a respectable,SAFE,useful size still for under 40 $.
If you got the idea off the parent site you should know that while there is lots of useful info there ,there is also quite a bit of outdated info there also.

Sounds like you need to get serious about this hobby unless it's just a passing phase you're going through for a week... You can, and should, do better than a tea kettle still... If you don't have the money or skills to be in this hobby safely we would rather have you buy your spirits at the liquor store than jeopardize your safety and that of others... Just sayin...
