Success with small oak barrels?

I have 3 L of whiskey aging in a 1 L and 2 L barrel but I know from reading this will age quicker than a 55 gallon barrel.

What is the minimum size barrel? I have a 5 gallon I want to fill. What kind of aging times am I looking at?
