Methylhydrate for cleaning runs.

I was wondering if it's safe to use the 99.9% pure methanol marketed as fuel for cleaning runs instead of just a wash or some impure liquor. I would however dilute it to 40% and rinse everything. I use a PTFE gasket. Would this be OK, methylhydrate is abundant because my car drinks it.

If you have a little leak, it could be really poisonous I think.

Personally, from a purely safety aspect, I would never do a cleaning run with pure poison...

Reagent grade methanol will be more costly than a bucket of sugar wash. And, of course it will evaporate at a lower temperature than a sugar wash run. And I don't think it would clean any better than a sugar wash would.

So, why would you want to do this?
