I have been using the alcohol essence from my local brew like these http://www.brewcraft.com.au/wawcs019613 ... irits.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow for my spirits and was in the shopping centre today (getting sugar for a wash) and saw these on the shelf. http://www.queenessences.com.au/product ... tegoryid=2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow
I brought a imitation Brandy and a Coffee Essence $2 in total....can they be used for making Liqueurs ?
I know they are stronger and may not need as much as 1/ 50ml bottle for 2.25lt of 40% spirit but i can work that out later.
Has anyone tried the same???????if so was the taste ok or should i stick with the brew shop essence?.

Thanks in advance

I've got mates who have used rum essence from the super-market with reasonable results. It doesn't add colour (so you get white rum) but much cheaper than brew shop flavours.

They're cheap enough - give 'em try and let us know how you go!

There is a "sticky" on this very topic at the top of this section.

Please use existing threads before startin' new ones.

Thankyou.

I do believe the sticky is for specific purpose alcohol essence's. This one appears to be on baking essences/others...

Just spoke to my local brew/spirit shop and was told that these essance are okay BUT his essence is better(he would say that to get a sale)
Also was told the Liqueur cream base that they sell is only powdered cream.

So i did my own Mocha Liqueur.
300ml of 80% spirits
300ml of white sugar
500ml NOT thickened cream
25ml chocolate essence
25ml coffee essence
add some water to get 1.5 ml(2 750ml bottles)

heated spirits/sugar/cream to dissolve sugar
added both essence and bottled
keep refrigerated and drink in 3-4 weeks.

Have just done this one and taste great.

Another essence worth trying is Queen brand Creme de Café, from Coles. And their natural lemon and lime essences are not too bad either.

I have used coffee whitener in place of cream base with good success

Sugar 0.175
Coffee whitener 0.225
Total 0.40

to replace 400g of cream base

If you look ate ingredient lines you can see he similarities
