Yeast Bomb: DAP vs. 20-0-0
Chemistry and I are not friends.
Yeast Bomb calls for 20-0-0 fertilizer
DAP = 18-46-0 (from here: http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/soil-and-wa ... t-talk.pdf)
I can get DAP, but 20-0-0 fertilizer I can only find with herbicide (e.g. Weed & Feed™) --so that's to be avoided.
It seems DAP has near the nitrogen required (and has phosphate) and could make a reasonable 20-0-0 substitution in the Yeast Bomb.
Is my assumption solid to use DAP instead of 20-0-0, or am I peeing up a rope?

My opinion is, with due respect, that you are over thinking it. I personally don't like the idea of using fertilizers in my whiskey, though don't personally care if others do. Probably safe, since it's recommended.
I use a few tablespoons of tomato paste in my yeast bomb with the other ingredients and call it a day. Nitrogen and nutrients.

Thanks. That makes sense.

DAP is a recognised yeast nutrient.

I prefer DAP over fertilizer
Have you ever wondered what's in commercial fertilizer ?
Here's the mother of all fertilizer ingredient list's

I've always used DAP. In every ferment I've ever done.
Thought maybe the Yeast Bomb was something magical.
I think I'll stick with it and avoid the fertilizer.
Thanks for the link and all the advice.

Yes. For example in DAP https://agr.wa.gov/PestFert/Fertilizers ... pname=7332" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow is arsenic 10ppm, cadmium 5ppm...
Peters 30-10-10 (the fertilizer rad often quoted) https://agr.wa.gov/PestFert/Fertilizers ... pname=6738" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow only has 0.5ppm arsenic and 0.3ppm cadmium.
Ok. Now you say this is no food grade DAP. Perhaps yes. Perhaps no. I think it's the same, at least about trace metals. Anyway, as long noone can provide a link, that food grade DAP has less arsenic and cadmium than fertilizer, I prefer fertilizer over DAP.

A friend uses boiled yeast and this

Re: Yeast Bomb: DAP vs. 20-0-0
I find the DAP route Easier, I can buy 500gm (just over a LB) of DAP from a chemist for $5
I put 50grams (2ish ounces) in my 200L ferments, seems to help my ferments alot (I do molasses sugar watches, and molasses is nitrogen Deficient)
I Still haven't found the NZ equivalent of this 20-0-0 stuff, asked someone at the local gardening store, and they looked at me weird

scroll down for nitrogen contents - ammonium sulphate (sulfate) is pretty close and should be easy foryou to get .

Maybe you have some sort of inferior Molasses there if you need to use extra nitrogen based nutrients.
The feed grade Molasses I use goes direct to my supplier from the sugar mill and ferments out very well without the addition of anything more than the contents of a vitamin B capsule and a few pinches of Epsom salts.
