Can we "swap"?

Post by Antler24 »

ok so I'm looking through Reddit at the bourbon reviews and stumble across a whole forum dedicated to users swapping samples and full bottles of bourbon. Samples in 2oz unlabeled or handwritten labels mostly.

Why can't we do this? It would be a great way to for others to review our own stuff, grade your ujsm against others ujsm, even group swaps with a certain recipe or style of spirit the group agrees on. THAT would be awesome. So these bourbon snobs do it all the time, is there any reason we can't?

Absintheurs do the same thing. We should note that neither Fed Ex, UPS, or USPS will (knowingly) ship alcohol for an amateur, but they don't open packages for inspection without good reason.
Distilling at 110f and 75 torr.

Done some swappsies in aus to pounsfos . :D Aussie post don't seem so worried . they even sell you these nice packages for sending bottles of wine to each other ...how thoughtful :D .
+1 on making sure the lid is screwed on properly . To be honest I'm not so keen on the same bottle getting passed on and on and on . Nice gesture but my caps start to leak after a while . Maybe same bottle but a new cap every nowe and then  .
One member on a forum I'm on in Aus sent me a bottle that he had sealed in a speacial wax like Makers mark...was no way that sucker was going to leak . Another fella sent me stuff in a Beer stubby which he capped...again safe as ...no chance of a leak and the postal service getting suss as half their mail bag ends up stinking like booze .

Only issue I had was one fella wasn't very good at hand writing . He addressed it to YummyBum ....yeah had to be the biggest que at the post office when smart bitch says " oh , your YummyBum ", I've been waiting for you to collect you parcel

I really like the idea of group swaps. That would be awesome. You mail out 12 of your own 2oz samples and in return get a 2oz sample from each of the participants. Would be great with a single recipe so everyone could compare.

I may be wrong but think that swapping spirits for sampling is not what #9 is for. I see #9 to forbid sales, or redneck sales like "oh, I can't sell it, but here is a bottle in exchange for a walmart gift card".
I see this type of swapping as far more akin to gifting.

You are correct and it has been done before . Study blind shipments and using a bogus return address .
This is sharing and not quid pro quo trading for gain .

I seal 'em with regular candle wax, melted in a dish. Works good and it looks kinda cool, too.

Home Brewers been doing it for a while. Mix 2 parts crayons and 1 part glue stick (glue gun type).
