And here is my latest lesson to pass on. Don't dump hot back set down the toilet immediately after a run. It can cause the cold porcelain bowl to shatter! Damn, what a mess.

the only reason I never tried it is because I never thought of it.
I am however draining it in to a porcelain sink, may have to rethink that.

I did how ever try to flush down 10kg of spent corn in the jacks, only tried that once, scooping corn out of the bowl is no fun.

I usually let the hot water leaving the liebig condenser drain into the toilet, no problem. This time I dumped a five gallon bucket of hot back set in and . . Bang!

Was that.....”chink”...or,....”clunk”.

If you dump it on the snow outside, it looks a little like “yellow snow” and kinda’ smells like it too. If you’re good...you can even write your name in the snow.

Seriously though, that's a total bummer!

I have always done that with hot low wines. Figuring it would clean it. Guess I'm not doing that anymore

A less obvious problem could be that the steamin hot liquid will get the porcelain hot enough to melt the wax ring seal under the toilet, allowing sewer aromatics to waft up into the dwelling.

Yeah. Even if you don't shatter anything, it will silently melt your wax ring, and you'll find water damage under the floor next time you take a look.

I reuse maybe 25-30% of my hot backset to cook more corn. The rest goes down the laundry sink, at least cool it first before it heads down the toilet

My shop had a floor drain that went through the slab and then out and dumped into the yard that I poured my backset down. My grains went to a couple pigs or into a 4x4x4' hole I dug. Not now. I'm in a tiny shed. Grain goes in trash. Backset in yard still but via bucket.
I miss my old shop...

I learn something new here everyday.
Been this close to dumping the hot boiler into my cold basement toilet.
Been this close to dumping spent grain into the garbage disposal.
Been this close to handling glass jugs without supporting the bottom.
Always seem to be saved by someone else's misfortune in messing up before me. I'm sure my day is coming though. I wonder what dumb-ass thing I'll do.

I always find more birds in my compost once I dump my spent grain? Try to cover it and it takes a long time to breakdown.

I like watching the squirrels get into it. Funny stuff . The hole I dug looked like a worm farm if you dug in to the oldest grain.

Being of sound mind and somewhat lazy....I let my backset cool overnight before dumping it on the weeds/lawn in the backyard. Never even been tempted to flush it down the toilet cause we're on a septic system and I don't want to kill off the good bacteria.

prolly a good idea. that low of PH would destroy the concrete in no short order too.

OOOOOOOOOh, didn't think about the concrete, just the $325.00 a pop to clean out the tank every few years, didn't want it to be an annual event.
