Many like to post about a first successful ferment (or first all grain mash), or first still built/bought or first good run of the still. Tell us about all of these great times here.
Pics are VERY welcome, we drool over pretty copper
i made mead never done it before. but i figured why not.
20lbs clover honey
5tsp fermax
2.5 tsp of dap
2 packs of ec1118
never made wine or mead before. i used to just make liquor but while i wait for spring and the garage to warm up (which im very antsy for) i figured id try to make my favorite thing to drink.
Is that 20lbs for 5 gallons? If so, that will be a very sweet mead I would think. I usually go 2.5 lbs/gallon. 3 is too sweet for me. Mead is my favorite thing to drink also.
It's doable but 20 lbs is quite high for the yeast. even 1118
You'll have a whole lot better mead if you step feed it to not stress the yeast, also try doing the nutrients in steps as well and you'll get a faster ferment and don't forget to degas every day for a week or so.
