Scotch?

Well I'm not in Scotland, but Scotch (I like Glenfidich?) is what I'm aiming for. Unfortunately, this seems like a big step up from rum. I've done a little reading and this and may need a little help. So I'll start with terms:
Single Malt whiskey: whiskey made from only one type of malt? Does this normally refer to barley?
Blended whiskey:I'm guessing a mix of grain, like an Irish whiskey?
Malt: Sprouted grain, therefore containing enzymes which break starches into sugars. Is all the starch in malt converted to sugar or does it still have a high starch content?
Cheers
