So I made the rookie mistake of using bottled water for diluting my neutral and I think the calcium has come out of suspension and is making my product cloudy and leaving a residue in the bottom of my Demi.
Question is, is there a way I can filter this out?
Also going forward can I used deionised water rather than distilled as that seems easier to come by locally
Thanks
Chris

I'm of the view that your cloudy neutral has nothing to do with your water, but everything to do with how you distill and made cuts.. tails with make any spirit cloudy to some degree, and the cloudiness usually settles out with time if left alone..StarkBlood1980 wrote:So I made the rookie mistake of using bottled water for diluting my neutral and I think the calcium has come out of suspension and is making my product cloudy and leaving a residue in the bottom of my Demi.

It’s only been in the Demi 24 hours and cloudy isn’t necessary the best description, we have very hard water in my area and what’s come out of suspension looks very much like limescale to me, it’s very small white particles.StillerBoy wrote:I'm of the view that your cloudy neutral has nothing to do with your water, but everything to do with how you distill and made cuts.. tails with make any spirit cloudy to some degree, and the cloudiness usually settles out with time if left alone..StarkBlood1980 wrote:So I made the rookie mistake of using bottled water for diluting my neutral and I think the calcium has come out of suspension and is making my product cloudy and leaving a residue in the bottom of my Demi.

I have wine that goes cloudy when refrigerated and this is different, the particles are larger

Anything that large should be easily filtered by any mechanical means ... coffee filters, a swatch of felt, or (my favorite) a cotton ball stuffed in the throat of a funnel.

I have a Harris wine filter but will plastic be ok at 40% abv?
Re: Calcium in finished product
No. No plastics.
Run some through a coffee filter and see if it clears. Slow, but effective if it works.
