This is my favorite drink! I’m not sure what category this drink would be under, maybe a spritzer?
80 proof vodka
Lemon LorAnn Natural Oil (Amazon.com)
Key Lime LorAnn Natural Oil (Amazon.com)
Water
co2 bottle and regulator

I add 1ml of Lemon oil and 1ml of Key Lime oil to a 1.75 liter bottle of 80 proof Vodka.
I pour 5oz of oil flavored Vodka then 23oz of water into a measuring cup.
I funnel that into a 1 liter plastic bottle. The plastic bottle cap has a chrome valve stem installed. With the cap slightly loose, I squeeze all the air out of the bottle then tighten the cap.
I now carbonate the bottle using a co2 bottle fitted with a regulator, hose and tire inflator nozzle. Shake bottle while pressurizing with co2. I set my regulator to approx. 50psi.
Pour over ice.

It tastes just like Sprite or 7-Up only without the sugar. I have also tried 2ml of Tangerine Oil and it’s great! LorAnn has 117 different flavors that I know of. When using natural oils it will give the Vodka and drink a cloudy effect (louche). The amount of oil and the vodka/water ratio is just a preference.

Are these oils "essential oils?". Or are they something different. A few months ago I made some liqueur with orange essential oil. It was quite tasty. I also have some lemon e-oil.
I think it would be fun to experiment and come up with some flavored vodkas that are infused with different edible oils to use as mixers. Kind of like what you do.

Yeah I use essential oils for flavourings. I add the oil to neutral and then dilute with either spring water or stevia syrup depending on what I am making.

The reason I asked is because I’ve been steam distilling essential oils and want to use them for flavoring my neutrals also. Making e-oils is very similar to distilling spirits in that you use a boiler and concentrate what your distilling. The hardest part for me is mixing the drinks so they will be palitable. I need to befriend a mixologist.

I'm not 100% sure if it is pure essential oil or not. They briefly describe the extraction process on their website. Most of their flavors are not oils, but their citrus flavors appear to be.

Citral (lemon myrtle flavoured vodka, use like gin)
420 mls neutral 95% ABV
12 drops lemon myrtle essential oil
mix thoroughly and make up to 1000 ml using spring water

Pimpinella (aniseed liqueur)
420 mls neutral
15 drops Pimpinella anisum (aniseed)
mix thoroughly and make up to 1000 mls using stevia syrup

O’sec - use like triple sec
420 mls neutral
12 drops orange essential oil, 6 drops lemon myrtle essential oil
mix thoroughly and make up to 1000 mls using stevia syrup

while I am at it - not oil based

Qinnamon - cinnamon flavoured liqueur
1200 mls neutral
big handful cinnamon (cassia) bark
soak for 3 months
strain off liquid
make up to 3000 mls using stevia syrup

Damn. I’ve been making whiskey mostly since I ran out of neutral. I’ve got a bunch of it aging and not much for right now. My next couple of batches will be neutrals. I’m going to try some of your recipes. I do have one question for you kimbo. How do these infusions compare to gin style where you infuse and or distill?

These are pretty bold flavours compared with what you’d get say from a gin basket.

Most of those flavors in that list are artificial and intended for foods, candy, confections, etc... The "Natural" flavors are oils. I've tried Lemon, Key Lime, Tangerine and they are very good. I haven't shopped around for better prices, but for $7-$8 per oz seems ok and a little bit goes a long way.

When you carbonate the drink the flavor really comes out.

There are a lot of flavored vodkas on the market and I'm sure all they do is add flavors like these. The trick is to flavor the vodka just enough for the strength you prefer in your drink.

I think I’ll stay away from the artificial flavors. I think the natural oils are the way to go for me. Probably because I can extract them myself. I may even try different amounts as a tincture then re distilling it. Lots of possibilities.
Carbonating is a great idea and I can see how it would bring out flavors.

I just tried Citrus Blossom oil and it's really good too. It needed 3ml per 1.75 liter of 80 proof vodka. When I tried 2ml the flavor was weak.

I was worried that Citrus Blossom would be floral, but it has a unique citrus flavor. The best way I can describe it is like a citrus orange creamsicle flavor.

I might try Blood Orange next.

Hi, i know im a bit late to the game here, but i have been trying to find definitive answers for flavoring neutrals with lorann oils for quite a while now. More so on the "how much to add?" end of it. So let me break it down what im trying to achieve. I am making a basic sugar shine that i will be filling 32 oz. mason jars with. Lets say i wanted to make a cotton candy flavored neutral... Once i have the jar filled, how much of the 1 dram bottle of cotton candy flavoring oil would i add to the jar? Thank you and hope you can help me out.

This sounds like a great experiment. Why don’t YOU do it and report what you’ve discovered. That way you’ll be contributing here instead of just taking.

Looks like we’ve abandoned the other thread about flavoring in thumpers?

Let’s say you wanted to make a cola and rum cocktail. I could tell you how much cola to rum I use but you may think differently. Flavoring is arbitrary.
If you’re filling multiple jars I’d settle it in my mind that some spirit would be reserved for experimentation. You’ve got a very specific flavor profile that isn’t common. Have fun tinkering with it. Try taking notes on the ratios. There are no rules to how you proof and flavor your hooch.
