Hello
Hello all! I am new to the hobby. Just picked up a 6 gallon pot still from Todd at Stampede Stills. I've done the cleaning steps described by kiwistiller. Been reading up on the craft for months and now I am finally ready to try my hand at it. I am mostly interested in making whiskey. Got a Birdwatcher sugar wash ready to go for a learning run.

Re: Hello
I know. That picture was from the sacrificial alcohol run. That was the bottle from the cheap vodka I used for that run. It was in the bottle long enough to collect it and through them both out.
Re: Hello
Good on ya for cleaning that still!
That's some gorgeous copper. New copper looks like gold to me, and 6-gallons is a fine working size.
Large enough to make decent cuts, and small enough that you won't be spending all day distilling.
You're going to have good time with this hobby.
Welcome to you, BlackLightning!

Welcome to HD!
Clean lil still rite there.
Worm needs to be 20-25' of 1/2"id for that.
Also, catch shots/heads seperate from parrot, or they'll be smeared thru your drink. Its always better to get good without the parrot first, then when you've developed your senses, and know where you're at runwise, go parrot.
The boiler thermometer is the only accurate one for charging reference..Plug others off.
Good luck, be safe, keep postn.

Welcome Down The Rabbit Hole!
Lot's to learn.
Among other things, the Distilling 101 thread (below) is good reading.
