I am making some infused Vodka

1) Thyme and lime zest

2) Vanilla beans

3) Cinnamon quills , allspice , and orange zest

I am putting each into Grolsh Bottles with Vodka to the bottom of the neck of the bottle

The question is the bottles have a neoprene washer on the bottle seal , which will not contact the spirit

I see that a lot of spirit bottles has a plastic seal in the screw cap , or just a plastic cap ,which does not come in contact with the spirit

actually I have just looked at my spirit bottles and most of the caps are plastic :esurprised:

should I be concerned about the plastic question

the rules here say no plastics in contact with hi proof spirits so for discussions sake, it's not open for discussion even for a well respected member that has been around almost as long as the site.

maybe you could cut some PTFE sheet to replace them, or just abandon the swing tops and install a regulation cork.

i just looked in my likker cab. i got no plastic liners, all mine or corks...i must be a whisky snob.

your infusion ides sound awesome. i been thinking about doing some myself....coffee, birds eye peppers and ginger has been on the list.

I often do infusions from overnight to a week in Mason jars with off the shelf lids, as used for Nuclear Whiskey, (a technique I have largely abandoned even though it is considered kosher on the forum).

Don't get to thinking that because the liquor isn't in direct contact with a seal that there is no contact. At any time of day when the top and neck of a container is cooler than the contents, vapor condenses on the cool surfaces at a higher proof than the liquor and runs back down the bottle neck the same as it does in a reflux still with a condenser.

For any long steeps, I use natural cork.

put a layer of Aluminium foil over bottom of Grolsh stopper
