Sugar cane distillate for gin base

Hi all
I live in Madagascar, Africa, and am trying to develop a gin for commercial market. We don’t have access to ethanol or NGS here, so need to distill our own. There is lots of sugarcane around, as well as many grains (corn, rice, sorghum, wheat etc) and cheap sugar as well. And of course awesome spices.
My question to the masters is what they would advise as a base. Sugar wash feels kind of lazy when we have so much sugar cane but rum agricole has a pretty strong flavour profile which I like but don’t necessarily want in the gin. Any suggestions? Hope to share our Mad Gin soon!
