Assuming those are pieces of oak floating in new spirit, then yes it's normal.

Can’t see the foto well enough to see what “...this...” is. Can you post a better picture?

They will (eventually) sink. But, it doesn't mean you're done with the oaking process. In a quart jar like that, I think 4 to 6 months is a good start. You'll see plenty of coloring. And if you open the jar periodically, it'll get rid of some of the sharper smells too.

Some oak behave that way.. Just give it a shake, and the colouration will become even.. the oak stick will also sink down after 10 - 15 days..

nah, don't shake it. in a few days they will drop to the bottom and then start to color it from the bottom, leaving the middle transparent. very cool effect.

Hi All

I have it on my kitchen counter and my son and I are just watching
What will happen next it is a lesson in diffusion I suspect. I would normally
Put it on the shelf in the cellar and forget about it. This is interesting to observe
Thank you for you comments

Yep. Found this today in the garage. It is from last weeks run. None of the other jars did it. It is cool to see. It'll be mid to late summer before its ready.
