Re: Hot pod 2inch tri clamp
Sorry I cant help. Im using natural gas.
Re: Hot pod 2inch tri clamp
That essentially does the same thing as the Still Dragon Element Guard Kit only about $10 less expensive and it appears to be lighter duty. I considered using that part, but I went with the Still Dragon kit instead. I really liked how it is 100% Tri-Clamp modular and extremely durable. I never regretted spending the few extra bucks.
I'm sure you'll be fine using that BrewHardware Hot Pod. They have good products.

I have the Brewhardware pod, it's great. Worked first shot with no leaks. Easy to remove and holds the power lead nice and solid.
Edit to say: I'm using a camco 5500w ULD "wavy" element.

Re: Hot pod 2inch tri clamp
NIN thanks for letting me know about the still dragon. The hot pod does have some people saying it was thin metal. That's why I wanted to ask around if anyone used them. Also how it worked for them.
Expat that's a cool set up checked out the link in your signature. The caster wheels are pretty cool!thanks for posting pics of the boiler. I'm a visual person and it helped a ton. I just ordered 2 of them.

The Still Dragon one looks good but I don't like the double triclamp design of it. Here is the one I use and like https://www.brewershardware.com/2-Tri-C ... ory_id=287" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow.
That said I think that it is good to support Still Dragon, Larry is a member here

Re: Hot pod 2inch tri clamp
I like that design the best! Looks simple yet sturdier than the hot pod. I also agree with your opinion on the double clamp design thank you for showing that element adapterOldvine Zin wrote:The Still Dragon one looks good but I don't like the double triclamp design of it. I move it between my boiler and brew kettle. Going on 3+ years. Works great and seems plenty strong.
The only comment I would have is to look at the 1.5 TC version if you don’t already have a TC on your boiler. Seems like there are more options for installing 1.5 TC bungs then 2” TC. But then I have a bunch of 2” clamps around already for my column, so that is convenient.

Re: Hot pod 2inch tri clamp
My only concern with the 1.5" version is that if your planning on using a wavy element it's a bit of a PITA in getting it through the smaller opening, it can be done but a lot easier with a 2".Johnnywhiskey wrote: The only comment I would have is to look at the 1.5 TC version if you don’t already have a TC on your boiler. Confident it will go through. They even make those elements with a 1.5 TC already on them. Brewhardware sells them with the flange.Oldvine Zin wrote:My only concern with the 1.5" version is that if your planning on using a wavy element it's a bit of a PITA in getting it through the smaller opening, it can be done but a lot easier with a 2".Johnnywhiskey wrote: The only comment I would have is to look at the 1.5 TC version if you don’t already have a TC on your boiler. The silver solder flange is a great way to add the flange too if you don’t have easy access to a good rig welder with stainless experience.

On the 2" or the 1.5"? by how much? Two things to look at are, did you tighten the element fully to the flange or is the element bent? Also long or short ferrule on your boiler? A picture is worth a thousand words.Madmanmadrid wrote:Ok so I added the camcorder 240v 5500w element to the brewers hardware adapter the element tips touching the ferrule is that a problem?

Re: Hot pod 2inch tri clamp
I tried top add a pic but it said it was too large of a file. It seems to be seated all the way in. It seems to be 1/2in short of clearing the end if the ferrule.Oldvine Zin wrote:On the 2" or the 1.5"? by how much? Pics need to be resized to a Max of 800 pixels of length and width before they can be uploaded. There are free tools on Android which I use, but I'm told they exist for Apple also.Madmanmadrid wrote:I tried top add a pic but it said it was too large of a file. I would suggest that the element touching is bad but not fatal in the short term. It's going to create a hot spot which may or may not cause issues. I'd think that being surrounded by liquid would minimize the impact.
There might also be wearing issues on the element. When heating/boiling there will be a fair bit of turbulence generated which might cause the element casing to chaff against the ferule, long term potentially shorting.
Without a picture it's hard to say but it sounds like you have an extra tall ferrule, which is causing the issue.

Re: Hot pod 2inch tri clamp
Just drained my boiler and took a closer look at the fit on my element. It's never been an issue fit wise but I did just notice that the tip of the element protrudes about a half inch inside of the ferule,it dose not touch the ferule. It's a short 2" ferule

Re: Hot pod 2inch tri clamp
Ha finally got the damn photo to go through. Thanks for the tip. Ok so the ferrule that's in the pic is what's gonna be welded to the keg. That's what I was worried about. I was thinking 1. The fitting would get hot a roast all the gaskets on the fitting or 2. Itll wear a hole in the element quickly.

Re: Hot pod 2inch tri clamp
Is that a 1 1/2" or 2"? looking at mine that's a 2" the element does go about a 1/2" into it but there is no contact. Maybe a little offset bend in the element might help?

Re: Hot pod 2inch tri clamp
Yeah it is a 2in I didnt know if I could bend the element without doing some type of damage to it.but if that's all I have to do then that should work then!
