Hey all. I'm new to distilling as some of you may know. I'm currently looking for a descent sized stock pot to make a pot still out of. I was defiantly looking for steel, but I ran into this one. It's about 27 bucks on amazon.com. I would imagine the presence off alcohol might wear at the surface coating. Am I right about this?

I take it that this is enamel coated, no? I don't think you really want this for a boiler. That coating could chip off if you dropped it, exposing the steel underneath. As a cooking pot (or brew kettle), this isn't as much of a problem, but in the corrosive environment of a boiler, I wouldn't use it.

This is an excellent stainless stockpot for a boiler and it is as cheap as it's going to get for a nice sturdy boiler. It has a good lip for clamiping a lid on and its lid is quite solid, allowing for light modifications. For mine, I had a 10 gauge stainless plate cut for it so that I could have things welded onto it, but you could get away with screwing a 3/4" column into the provided lid.

I was hoping that I could use a screw on column. How is that done. I've seen the parts, but you have to solder them, don't you? I don't have any of the equipment for soldering, sadly. I did find a ss stock pot, 12 q with a nice lip, that was around 15 bucks. I tried your links but they were broken.

Well, I went to the hardware store, they didnt have anything I could use in the 3/8 size to connect the tubing. I would need 1/2 or 3/4 for things to work. Then I dont know how I would connect it to the condenser without welding/soldering.
