First neutral run on a thumper

Post by HelmetHeid »

Hey all,

I'm really excited to be trying out a thumper on my pot still tomorrow. I've been reading around the forum for all the different ways of running the thumper, and I thought id share what I've come up with and see if folk agree it's a good idea.

So I'm trying to make a clean neutral. I've got a full pot charge of 30%abv low wines from a stripped sugar wash. The pot still is 40litres and the thumper is 20litres. Running these low wines again through the still and thumper should give (I hope) a reasonably clean neutral base to use for other things later on.

I'll add, say, 3 litres of water to the thumper (I'm adding water to hopefully help strip flavour and make it as neutral as possible). And I'll probably not add any heat to the thumper unless I can sort out another hot plate by tomorrow - so I guess the thumper will fill up a bit and take longer to start outputting.

D'you think the 3litres of water in the thumper is too much/too little? And any tips/rules of thumb on where to cut the fores on a run like this would be welcome.

Thanks!
