First time distiller

First time distiller

I'm going to use a simple pot still distilling around 3l of cider. I've been reading alot but i'm unsure about how much i need to throw away. Most sources say throw away 50ml for 20L so do I only need to throw away around 7ml? How much distilled alcohol am i likley to make? As it's my first time i'm only doing things in small amounts...
