I'm slowly assembling parts to make a modular build. My fabrication and even metal identifying skills are virtually non existing at this point.

A friend gave me these 20l kegs. He works at a brewery, they were given these kegs by mistake and don't use this type so they weren't of any use to them. I'd like to run them as thumpers. I want to set them up in a twin retort rum still.

Are these stainless steel? They're much lighter than my 50l stainless steel keg. They weigh around 4 kilos each. I tried scratching them with a stainless knife, didn't work so I'm guessing they're not aluminum. But the lightness throws me off. I'd rather know for sure

I also think I've seen screw on adapters for a 2" triclamp fitting. Would those be the same thread as is found on these kegs?

corny kegs, used a lot by beerbrewers, should be SS alright, great score that

It's a 1/6th barrel keg, uses a European "S" style sanke valve. There's a few threads about them on this forum. It's SS, likely 304. Utilizes a 1.75mm pitched thread.

Haha so do I. Thanks guys, I've read aboit corny kegs but figured those were the ones with a different coupling.

I'm stoked. I'll try and get the next few items I need. Will take a while though. I'll start a build thread once I have everything.

It's not a corny keg, but a 1/6th barrel keg. Corny kegs have different setups on them, like the ones shown in the photo below.

Either way, can't wait to see what you come up with!

That's what had me confused! I'm super happy now that I know they're safe and they won't require modifying to be used as a thumper.
I'll be looking at couplings some more. Whoever designed triclamps needs a statue.
