I haven't seen or heard anyone make a vat in hobby scale. Searching only showed the discussion of if actually done anything. And I don't want to argue if it has any benefit.

Since day one I have caught my spirits in a funnel filled with charcoal. And now I want to make or buy something that is a larger vat to add charcoal surface area.

Thoughts are make a copper sheet downspout 3 or 4 inch wide x 6 foot long. Fill with charcoal, pour over, and drain into jars. Cost would be high but would drain through a lot of charcoal.

Second idea is to buy a SS stock pot and make a drain. Cost would be lower but the drain has me puzzled since I don't own a welder. Time in charcoal would be less but I could collect and pour back over the coals multiple times.

Depends on Pot size, but plenty of places including restaurant supply sell SS stock pots with drains built in up to roughly 8/10 gallons. OR you could have a local fabrications/Welding ship install. Better yet, use a keg and cut out the top for a keggle. You can always silver solder it yourself but Welding is better. Add charcoal, add spirits, let soak, open spout and drain through a strainer. Can sit and soak for as long as you want. Not sure what your volume needs are.
