Hi Everyone,
I'm from Wellington, New Zealand.
Experience: Beer and Cider, but only from concentrates. Currently reading the new distillers lounge, up to my second eye-bleed.
I was supposed to be working from home for the last 6-odd weeks, instead I found on YouTube Chasing the Craft/StillIt, and Barley & Hops, and now this forum. I have a lot of work to catch-up on...
I've just purchased a Copperhead Still combo with reflux and pot heads (very similar to T500). Have done vinegar wash and currently waiting for sugar wash to finish for my sacrificial wash. I screwed up the wash a bit and only bubbling 1/second, pretty sure I know where I went wrong so not too bothered, happy to make mistakes if I learn from it.
Getting supplies is a pain at the moment, waiting on several online orders that may still be weeks away. Oh the agony of waiting to get going...
Goals: Make a decent supply of neutrals for stocking up the cocktail cabinet using those mixers, vodka and gin. Then focus on developing skills for bourbons or whiskys.
I really wanted to build my own still, but being the person I am it would take years for the first drop to come out. In the meantime I'll be keeping an eye out for parts and slowly gathering the bits I will require.
Some say I am cheap, I am just after the best bang for buck. I enjoy looking for bulk discounts and alternate places for purchasing products. I feel I have won when I make a saving, even if I had to buy 10x the amount. There are exceptions of course; I found DAP for $785/T. I'm thinking that 1000Kg may be a little excessive. Still trying to source DAP in NZ.
Otherwise I am all good to go. Hope to chat with a few of you later on.
Thanks.
Hi from New Zealand
