Well, i rarely smoke cigars, bit I do enjoy a pipe now and again. Favorite blend is Saratoga. Which has kind of fruity/woody smell.

My favorite is also the romeo & juliet #2, if not paired with a couple fingers of my AG, then with a glass of The Balvenie 12

Re: What's your cigar/whiskey pairingI’d like a 20 858, some brown with red breast 12. I’d like a Fuente 858, some brown

My usual go to is a Fuentes 858, sun grown Wrapper and red breast 12 meat.
For rum or sweeter cocktails (Manhattan’s) it’s Fuente Hemingway’s.
For Rye or bourbon, I like any of the Perdomo presidents.

My bride doesn’t like any of them!

i've been making my own since being corrupted by reprobates here a few years ago. i like a criollo 98 leaf with a sumatra binder and USA grown connecticut shade leaf wrapper.

my fav tailor made is a rocky patel "vintage 1992" toro. but they are far too pricey to light on a regular tuesday.

nice thing about rolling your own, you can get the size, shape, draw and flavour just the way you want. its a pretty fun hobby, i can make a years supply in about a total of 12 hours, spaced out over a couple of weeks it's not too onerous. plus if you decide you're done with one you just toss it, at buck to a buck fiddy each it's no big deal...throwing out one of those 20$$ rocky's is a bit harder.... you end up smoking them to the nub whether or not you're enjoying it.

This is great info guys. Ive always wondered about cigars and whisky but know no one that smokes them so have no idea where to start and cigar smoking isn't that popular in Australia. I can get the Romeo & Juliet #2 for about AU$32 delivered each so might start with that one.

Obviously in my fully biased view, I think your choice is excellent. Only comment is wow, I mean I guess Auz is a looooog way from way from Cuba, but that sounds pricey. I think I paid maybe C$150 for a box of 24 from a licensed store on the rum island.

It works out to about US$20.50 each. Plus we have some pretty high taxes on tobacco products.

Gave up all tobacco use years ago. It was a hard habit to beat. The only smoke that I enjoy now is what is in my foods & spirits. So a good smoked sausage sammich & a glass of my single malt on ice please. :)

Sadly, I have not and my warm weather window is fading on me. Life is getting in the way at the moment. But I hope to do so real soon!! I have a carboy of raw agave from 21 Missions that I am drooling over in my garage. Soon.

mmmmm Single Malt. I dipped a finger in my 10 month old barrel today. Spring cant get here fast enough. So, I'm sipping the last bit of my Balcones 1 at the moment, while a Tri Tip is in the smoker getting all flavorful.

Yes, a tri tip! Love some Santa Maria style bbq. Enjoyed a lot of it on the west coast near Vandenberg.

Yeah, it ain't as cheap as it once was, but damn it's good eats. Lately, my favorite way to prepare it has been Sous Vide at 132*F for two hours, and a fast sear at 500. medium rare edge to edge, and fork tender. But today called for some apple and barrel stave smoke.

I have an outdoor kitchen that is well stocked with almost two cords seasoned white oak, pecan, and hickory. All uniform cut to size & split for the smoker. I can cherry pick all the heartwood I want for aging as well.

Ive got a gas fired smoker with a cast iron skillet and a lid. seasoned wood goes in skillet. I smoke everything from cheese to brisket in that thing.
Smoked, bacon wrapped meatloaf from home cured bacon and your own ground sausage and beef is heaven. It's how I got my wife to start eating meatloaf.
But, to get back on subject, The last time a paired a cigar with a whiskey was at Grand Lodge Leadership retreat in 2019. Not much for cigars, but someone had some real good Cubans, and I have to admit, it was pretty F'ing good.

This is a measure not often used in Australia.

Cord, unit of volume for measuring stacked firewood. A cord is generally equivalent to a stack 4 × 4 × 8 feet (128 cubic feet)

(from the interweb)

Hell that is a lot of wood.

Pipe for me and Mellow Moonshine is my favorite blend. The name just happens to coincide with the hobby.
