attaching still to lid
I recently bought an electric boiler (Anvil Foundry)and built a pot still. The stainless lid on the boiler has a 47mm opening and my pot still has a 2" standpipe. I am looking for ideas on the best way to attach the still to the lid. I need to be able to disassemble so I can make beer also.

Re: attaching still to lid
Most people will not have any idea what an anvil foundry boiler is or looks like....a photo of the boiler and lid would help a lot.
I suspect it probably just another rebadged boiler the same as the rest......if so there will be an easy solution.

You could buy an extra lid and attach the column to that lid..
The 7.5 gal size has a fermenter lid that seem to be of the same as what you quoted..

What's the gauge/thickness of the lid?
Can get a 2" male thread to 2" tri clamp, weldless bulkhead fitting.
It's more or less the kind of adaptation the fitting is made for.

Here is a picture. I think a T500 fits, at least it is an optional upgrade. The lid looks like it is 22 gauge stainless.Saltbush Bill wrote: ↑Tue May 26, 2020 2:00 pm Most people will not have any idea what an anvil foundry boiler is or looks like....a photo of the boiler and lid would help a lot.

Looks very similar to a T500 lid , if it is there is an adapter that you can buy, a few of the still sellers on line where marketing them. Google should find them.

Re: attaching still to lid
A bulkhead tri clamp fitting with a copper ferrel on the end of the pipe looks like a good option, but spendy. Unfortunately, everyone seems to be out of stock of the bulkheads in the US right now. The T500 compatable stills use a threaded fitting and nut, but I am not sure what it is and I can't find it as a stand alone item. A standard 2" male NPT fitting is too big to fit through the hole. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Solder and any fitting you need looks OK.

Re: attaching still to lid
I am thinking about taking a 2" end cap, drilling a ~47mm hole in it and soldering it to the lid. The pipe can then slip into the end cap and be sealed with flour mix. Does this seem feasible? I have not soldered copper to stainless before, so not sure if it is strong enough. Any advise on solder and flux to use is appreciated.

The method and solder use is the same as for soldering copper.. the only difference is in the flux / paste requirement, plus the use of acetone for cleaning the parts after they have been ready for soldering ..
Harris Stay Clean or Superior 71 are two good ones.. I personally prefer Superior 71, mainly cause it a paste, and for it ease of working with and cleaning.

Is 94/6 Sn/Ag solder a good choice?
