So this is the second time this is happened. A few years ago I finished my first barrel aged rye, aged two years in a barrel. I poured it out of the barrel through wire mesh to get the big chunks out and then filtered everything through coffee filters and achieved clean Product. It tasted great. A few days after bottling I noticed floaties in my whiskey. Another run through a coffee filter cleaned it up and I didn’t see them again.
I just pulled a three-year bourbon out of another barrel and the same thing happened. Below is a photo of what I see in the bottle. This is after filtration through coffee filters and the floaty’s aren’t in there after filtration. They only appear about a week after I bottle. The bottles are clean and rinsed with water right before filling. The first time was still life rye. The bourbon was Honeybear bourbon. I’ve never gotten this before when not aging in a barrel. On sticks it never does it in my clear spirits don’t either.
Any idea what this might be? The bourbon and rye taste great. They’re just a little bit weird looking with the floaters.
