Rubik's Cube

Post by pintoshine »

Any advanced solvers on here?
I work on in about two minutes without any aids or guides.

I wrote a small manual for a fairly easy solution.
http://www.amsyrup.com/sloj/cube_solution.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow

I am looking for patterns that can be done. I can do a few, such as changing the center colors, making checkerboard patterns and a few others.

Let me know if any out there share an interest.

I can do a 3x3 in under 30 sec on a semi-decent run... always under 45.
4x4 is more like 3 min 30 sec and 5x5 is 4 min 30 ish... I play with patterns a lot... I don't often use them nowdays.
Found that a company makes larger ones, asked very nicely a few times for a quote on them and never got a reply.

The first solve is my favorite... 3x3 took me weeks. 4x4 took 6hrs. 5x5 took me under an hour first time.
The 3x3 I honestly gave up and read a guide... took me a long time to make sense of it because it was badly written and some parts didn't even work properly... so I did a lot of advanced research and made the fastest speedcubing method I could without going hardcore and memorising the 1200 or 12000 or whatever number of formulae to do the fastest possible solves.
The others I worked out without reading a guide or getting help of any kind. Parody errors on the 4x4 took about half of the total 6hrs to work out... real brain buster.

I have dyspraxia so my hand eye coordination is more oriented toward slow deliberate movements. I envy those who have the ability to see and do really fast. But then my ability for excruciating detail offsets that.
So then how bout some interesting patterns.

I'll try and get onto it... the problem is that I forgot some, and the ones I do remember, I remember as a process rather than in notation (I remember different parts of a solve in different ways for whatever reason...)

But yeah, I'll go try and get a couple down... don't expect too much, I play more with 5x5 patterns than 3x3 lol

Try:
R L' B F' D U' R L'
F2 U2 R2 L2 D2 B2
R2 B2 L2 F2 R2 B2 L2 F2 R2 B2 L2 F2
R L D U R L D U R L D U R L D U R L D U R L D U

Those are the only ones I can remember any more... also try combining a couple...
One that comes to mind is
R L D U R L D U R L D U R L D U R L D U R L D U
and F2 U2 R2 L2 D2 B2

Hope that you can read my style of notation...

Talk about makin' a guy feel stupid--F2 U2 R2-ad nauseum--what the hell is that? I bought a Rubic's Cube at a yard sale last year for 25 cents--wish I had my money back. I fixed it with a hammer.

I am guessing u is upper face and d is lower face.
F front and b back Correct?

F = front 90* clockwise
B = back 90* clockwise
U = top 90* clockwise
D = bottom 90* clockwise
L = left 90* clockwise
R = right 90* clockwise

F' = front 90* clockwise
B' = back 90* anticlockwise
U' = top 90* anticlockwise
D' = bottom 90* anticlockwise
L' = left 90* anticlockwise
R' = right 90* anticlockwise

F2 = front 180*
B2 = back 180*
U2 = top 180*
D2 = bottom 180*
L2 = left 180*
R2 = right 180*

That's the basics of the notation I use.

When I say clockwise and anticlockwise I do not mean from the your point of view looking at F, I mean as though you were looking directly at the cube face in question.

Ah, fair enough. I can definitely understand why you might say that - but then you're missing out on the fact that when you first solve a 3x3 it opens up and tells you the meaning of life... turns out the things are also filled with four leaf clovers.
Who'd have suspected it?
Sure as hell came as a surprise to me. :roll:

The valuables inside destroy themselves under suspicion of cheating... You should know better :P

Someone thought they were funny when they took two edge pieces off my cube and swapped them, as well as rotating a corner and possibly more, making it unsolvable... I had to take it right apart and rebuild it... was annoying to say the least - I used a lot of sticky tape and force...
it cannot even compare to rebuilding a 4x4, though. first you have to figure out how to rebuild it... then theres actually rebuilding it.. took me 45min and a small roll of tape. *shudder*

They're not under the colored tape squares either cause I've had those off also.

Some people have too much time on their hands. :roll: :D

I don't need a mysterious box to reveal the secret of life...I have a wife, I'm sure one would contradict the other and I just don't need that in my life. :lol:

My favorite pattern. Sorry, no set way to get there, I solve for it.

It took me a few minutes to reproduce that pattern. Nice job.
I have recently finished the 4x4. I used the method of orienting the center squares, orienting the edges and solving like a 3x3. The parity solutions for the method I used were easy to find. I only ran into two parity problems. It must be the result of the edge solution I applied. Nice exercises to keep the mind keen and clear.
