New used copper pot

I just got a new used copper pot and you wouldn’t believe the condition it was in, it had DIRT in that looks like it had been there for years. Then after rinsing I find out the dirt clump was mostly some sort of animal hair!!!! I think it was used to bath an animal.
Well screw that, I’m not really concerned with that.
The main thing is it has a green crud at the top(oxide) where it had been used for what I intend to use it for. It also has other spots in it like that but for the most part it’s just the ring around the top.
How far should I go in trying to clean this pot? I’ve scrubbed the ring on top but it seems to almost be a part of the metal.
I’m thinking of taking it down to bare metal as the spots and ring seem to be on the surface.
Should I take it down to bare metal? Or will doing that weaken it leaving me with deep pits where the spots and ring are. It doesn’t really look like it would but while scrubbing it I noticed a different sound when scrubbing the bottom. The bottom don’t sound to good, maybe I can just pound it with a hammer and reharden it, I don’t know.
Any advice anyone? I’d appreciate your help on this.
